This artefact depicts Marsyas tied to a tree. The anatomy of the torso and the face expresses all the tension and suffering of Silenus. Even though the subject was widespread, the bronze artefact from Syracuse currently has no known comparisons. This may be handle of an object that was inserted into the hole in the rectangular base on which the tree trunk rests.
