Found in Pompeii, these scales fall within the "rider" category and feature a small weight, spherical in this case, that slides along one arm. Engraved at regular intervals on the arm are a number of points which correspond to submultiples of the weighing unit and served to make small adjustments to the object placed in the other pan.
