  • Statue of a crocodile

The crocodile appears with its snout raised and jaws shut. The simple but effective anatomical details do not belie the naturalistic essence of the sculpture, a characteristic that distances the Capitoline sculpture from the overly schematised and older Egyptian specimens, and differentiates it from Imperial Roman imitations.
