Cheese grater

6th century B.C.
Policoro, Museo Archeologico Nazionale della Siritide
Inv. 214919

This grater was used for the goat cheese that, along with honey, was added to flavour the wine, which was then diluted by 2/3 with water. This was done to improve the taste of the wine, too heavy in the pure state due to its high alcoholic content.
