Monopodium with a silene

1st century A.D.
Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Napoli e Pompei
Inv. 1109

This monopodium constitutes a unicum for the subject portrayed: the lion's paw that forms the support is crowned by acanthus leaves surrounding the bust of a silene. In his arms he holds an infant, Dionysus, protected by a light veil of fabric.
