Filippo Albacini, Bust of Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci's interest in Archimedes' discoveries was probably fuelled by scholastic authors, the writings of Luca Pacioli and, perhaps, direct access to translations by William of Moerbeke and Jacopo of Cremona. The bust by Albacini, inspired by a print translation from a painting by Morghen from the presumed portrait of Leonardo in the Uffizi, was commissioned by Canova for a series of illustrious men for the Roman church of the Pantheon, then transferred to the Campidoglio in 1820.
