  • Fresco with a sacro-idyllic landscape

This shows a landscape featuring elaborate architecture. The portrayal of complex architecture in landscapes originated in the Alexandrian sphere in the second half of the 4th century BC and was also hugely successful in the Roman world, as demonstrated by the paintings found in Rome and Pompeii.
