  • Relief showing a catapult

Although fragmentary, this relief features a mechanical device for throwing projectiles. Significantly, it comes from the city where sources say the catapult was invented in the early 4th century BC (Diodorus, XIV, 42, 1-2). According to sources, Archimedes also designed machines that hurled projectiles.
