  • Rostra

In 2011, searches jointly conducted by the Soprintendenza del Mare della Regione Siciliana and RPM Nautical Foundation found lost-wax cast trident rostra or rams in the sea approximately 7 km west of the island of Levanzo, where the Battle of the Aegates Islands is known to have been fought (10 March 241 BC) by the fleets of Carthage, led by Hanno, and those of Rome, commanded by Lutatius Catulus. The rostra are complete and form part of a series of ten similar ones found between 2004 and 2012 at the same site.
