  • Wall mosaic with a port scene

The multi-storey construction occupying the entire left side is the Lighthouse of Alexandria - the luminous tower designed by Sostratus and considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. A merchant ship is putting out to sea from the quay and is manoeuvred by sailors. The technical details and spectacular effect of the whole make this a quite remarkable wall mosaic.
