Based on the principle of the lever, the winch is a device that makes it possible to lift a load with a force lesser than its weight. It consists in two concentric wheels. The weight to be lifted is suspended from the smaller one and the force is applied to the larger one. The larger the radius of the latter, the less force will be required to lift it.
