"Because we have described the pole that defines the Arctic Circle it must be understood for our further explanation that by this we mean the upper pole of the zodiac situated at an elevation of 66°9' and distant from the pole of the earth by 24°51' [sic 23°51’] … The lower pole of the zodiac describes the Antarctic Circle, which is situated in the same degree of declination and is at the same distance from the lower pole of the earth as is the upper pole of the zodiac."
