Back to section: Grapes and wine in Pompeii

Amphora

1st century A.D.
Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Napoli e Pompei
Inv. 4782b

The painted inscription in Greek letters refers to the Cretan wine lytium, giving the name of its producer, M. Pomponius (or Pompeius) Teypon, while on the neck appears the name Tiberius Claudius Aristoteles, presumably the wine dealer.
