APPROFONDIMENTI
The mythological origins of wine
Demeter had taught mankind about bread, Dionysus did the same with wine. Guest of a farmer, Ikarios, and his daughter Erigone in the countryside of Attica, Dionysus revealed to them at supper what no human being had ever known before. That new liqueur, of which they drank many cups together, produced an astonishing effect: it aroused men and put them to sleep, banished the sorrows of the soul and intensified them. Ikarios now had to share this knowledge with mankind.
