  • Satyr mask

This theatrical mask depicts an old bald satyr with a grim expression. The mask comes from the Casino district, the site of an important Hellenistic necropolis. In antiquity, the presence of theatrical masks inside a tomb is related to the concept of death. The mask is the talisman that reveals the deceased's devotion to Dionysus, the god of the theatre.
