Tuscany

The great hall assigned to Tuscany contained collections coming from the cities of Pisa, Arezzo, Pistoia, Larderello, Siena, Volterra, Prato, Lucca, Livorno and Empoli. The center of the hall, however, was dominated by a theme show on Leonardo, with materials coming from Milan, Naples,Vinci and Florence. Its main attraction consisted of the rebuilding of parts of the "flying machine", realized by Raffaele Giacomelli in collaboration with Giuseppe Schneider (draughtsman at the Stabilimento di Costruzioni Aeronautiche in Rome [Aeronautic Constructions Plant] and Alberto Picchi (director of the "Leonardo da Vinci" Technical Institute of Florence). The rebuilt machine, strongly backed by Corsini, was described by Giacomelli as a "simple, rigorously faithful, replica" done starting from individual drawings by Leonardo.
